If you work in early childhood with children and families every day, chances are you have participated in some of the many quality improvement initiatives out there. You want to be the best teacher you can be so you take a deep breath and dig in to learn about new research and practice. New quality improvement initiatives such as early literacy and math professional development, new curriculums, and quality rating scale efforts give you many opportunities to grow as a professional, but it isn’t easy to take in new research and apply it to your setting every day. Feeling like you are starting over as you try new strategies is never comfortable. What sounded great in training doesn’t always go so smoothly the first several times you try it live in your own classroom or home. Dilemmas arise that make you wonder if your choices or priorities are the right ones. You worry that you are spending all your time focused in one area of your teaching to the detriment of other areas of teaching and learning.
Join us to take some time out to reflect on your journey through changes in teaching practice. We will share our observations of the phases teachers go through as they take on new concepts about learning and teaching, evolving their teaching approach. Explore helpful exercises for teachers, and those who support teachers, reflecting on the teaching journey at each phase. We will examine emotional reactions, explore dilemmas arising as you integrate the new with the old, and identify opportunities for shared learning with peers.
All sessions are 1.5 hours long, and include a brief announcement from our sponsor.
2:oo PM – 3:30 PM Eastern Time.
