As we adjust to the new realities of providing child care in the midst of a pandemic, we may have families that question our choices and strategies based on things they’ve heard or seen on television or social media. And we, ourselves, might be confused about conflicting messages. This session, presented by early childhood media literacy expert, Faith Rogow, will offer strategies for using media literacy skills to address concerns and improve understanding.

Participants will:

• learn some specific fact-checking strategies they can share with families.
• understand how social media structures and our brains influence our views, including concepts like confirmation bias, agenda-setting, and how we construct group identity (wanting to belong).
• see how to use media literacy to change the conversation, including how introducing media literacy practices that are not centered around controversies can help them deal with conflicts.

All sessions are 1.5 hours long, and include a brief announcement from our sponsor.
