In Massachusetts, a collaboration between the Commonwealth’s Department of Early Education and Care and United Way of Massachusetts Bay and the Merrimack Valley, Brain Building in Progress was born. This focus on early educators as Brain Builders is a crucial one for the field, funders, and government from the local to the federal level. Developments in neuroscience and Early Education provide us with tools to support us as Brain Builders with developmentally appropriate practices that we can utilize to help each child truly develop to his or her potential.

There is another aspect to Brain Building; many leading companies (General Mills, Target, Google, and Aetna) have incorporated mindfulness programs into their corporate cultures. Why? The short answer is better productivity and an improved corporate culture. The really short answer is “profits”. But, there are also long term benefits for the individuals in the reduction of stress, health and well being, which also contribute to the bottom line. When an organization creates a mindful culture, it is simply better at whatever it is it does. Mindfulness helps build better brains. So those of who are asked to build brains every day in our programs have an opportunity to help our organizations, including children, educators, parents, administrators, and our communities become mindful ones. We have so many brains to build. I know we don’t have time to do it; but we also don’t have time not to do it. In this webinar, we will try to figure out “how to do it”.

• We will explore some of the science behind Mindfulness.
• We will look at what makes an organization a “mindful one”, including the related concepts of reflection and intentionality.
• We will help you figure out if your organization is ready to become a more mindful one.
• We will look at various strategies and approaches to Mindfulness, including things you can start doing, right now, from the classroom to the boardroom.
• We will show how Mindfulness supports Social-Emotional Learning.
• We will share resources to support your efforts.

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will be able to explain the benefits of Mindfulness
2. Participants will identify at least 2 strategies that they can implement immediately to support Mindful practice, with children and for themselves.
3. Participants will commit to practice!
4. Organizations will commit to joining this movement!

 

All sessions are 1.5 hours long, and include a brief announcement from our sponsor.
